Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
JuicyCampus adamantly denies the recent rumors of being Eiffel Towered by Facebook and MySpace. But in case this was not your question, here are some others...
How do I get back to the "All Campuses" view?
To get back to the "All Campuses" view, simply type "All Campuses" in the choose your campus box. This will allow you to see the latest posts from all supported campuses.
Do search engines crawl this site?
Search engines are blocked from crawling JuicyCampus. This means that if there is a post on JuicyCampus with your name in it, and someone were to search your name using Google or some other major search engine, the JuicyCampus post will not show up in the search results.
Can I really post whatever I want on here?
Well, in a very literal sense, yes you can. We don't pre-screen the content, so whatever you type in will get posted to the site. However, we ask our users to adhere to certain guidelines that can be found here. Among other things, we ask that you don't post lies about people or groups - that's called defamation and it's illegal - and you can't post copyrighted material that isn't yours. JuicyCampus has the right (but not the obligation) to re-arrange, remove and/or restrict access to any Content on the Site at any time in its sole discretion, for any reason or for no reason.
What is defamation?
We're not lawyers. Honestly, we're not even that smart. So we'll leave it to the experts. Check out this link for more information regarding online defamation...

Is the site really anonymous?
Yes. We don't ask for your name, email address, or other personally identifiable information in order for you to make a post. In fact, we prefer not to know who you are. We like to think that famous people like Justin Timberlake and Beyonce are using our site. We love them...
Am I totally untraceable by any means?
JuicyCampus believes very strongly in free and anonymous speech online. We comply with lawful subpoenas because we have to, but if some university President called us asking for a favor, we'd tell him to go screw himself.

Pretty much no matter what, you leave a "footprint" when you visit sites on the internet, and the right team of Internet specialists can figure things out. For example, some douche threatened to shoot and kill everyone on his campus, so we cooperated with the police and they tracked him down. But even Internet specialists would need search warrants and/or subpoenas. And even with an IP address, that only tells them who your internet service provider is. Your ISP, then, would typically have to be served with another subpoena and/or search warrant in order to actually reveal your identity. Most ISPs, and all cable internet providers, will notify their customers before responding to such a subpoena so that the customer has a chance to challenge the subpoena and not have their identity revealed. Check your ISPs Terms and Conditions to see whether your ISP gives notice of subpoenas.

Sometimes people get on the site and try to scare users from posting by claiming that they have some ultra-geeky tracking software that is allowing them to tell who is posting what. These people are bullshitting you. There is no way for someone to use the site to figure out who or where you are.

Nonetheless, if you are particularly concerned about online privacy, there are several services that offer free IP-cloaking. Just do a quick search on Google and find one you like...
What is the "Juiciest" tab?
This tab sorts the posts in order of how "Juicy" they are. This percentage is determined by our users by voting with a thumbs up or thumbs down.
Why don't you have my campus?
We just started on October 24, 2007. We're trying to expand as rapidly as possible, so chances are that we'll be heading to your campus soon. If you'd like to request your campus, you can do that by clicking here.
I'm offended!
Sorry. Also, that's not a question...
How do I remove a comment I posted?
Simply click the "delete" button that appears next to the headline. If you don't see a delete button, then you've deleted your cookies, are using a different computer, or never had cookies enabled in the first place. In that case, you can't delete -- so be careful what you say...
Can I edit a post I've made?
You can't edit a top-level post. If we let you do that, then you could post something, have bunch of people reply that they agree, and then change your post to say something else. However, we do allow you to change your replies. Simply try to reply to the same post again and it will tell you that you have already replied. Just say okay, and then you'll be able to edit your reply. (This only works if you haven't deleted your cookies, are using the same computer as before, and had cookies enabled in the first place).
What if I see a comment that just isn't true?
First, you might want to consider whether the comment states a fact or an opinion. Facts can be untrue. Opinions can be stupid, or ignorant, or mean-spirited, but they can't be untrue. And we believe everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Second, if the comment states a fact, rather than an opinion, consider whether there is any possibility that the fact is true. What is the source? Why do you believe it to be incorrect? Is this something about which you have personal knowledge? Sometimes people surprise you.

Third, consider whether the "fact" is meant to be taken as truthful, considering the context. If the "fact" is that Jerry Falwell had sex with his mother in an outhouse, that's obviously meant to be a joke. Parody is protected by the First Amendment.

If you still think the comment is factually false, you should probably give it a big thumbs down to start so that people know you disagree. And you can also reply with your thoughts on the subject and additional information - maybe even something that disproves it.

Finally, remember that you are reading a web site run by people you don't know, containing comments made by people you don't know, concerning events which may or may not have occurred. You should take everything you read with a large grain of salt.
How do I remove a post that someone else made?
You can't. Only we can remove posts made by others, and generally we don't. We do remove spam, but otherwise it's pretty rare.
What if my contact information is posted?
If someone posts your email address, your home address, your home phone number, or other contact information (no, your full name doesn't count), we'll consider deleting it if you notify us. Shoot an email to us at cs@juicycampus.com with "Contact Info" in the subject, give us as much info as you can about the post so we can find it, and we'll see what we can do. FYI, we may or may not read your complaint, and we may or may not respond to it. The decision of what action to take, if any, is at the sole discretion of JuicyCampus.
What if a post violates a law?
If a court of competent jurisdiction finds that the author of a post is guilty of a crime as a result of that post, or holds that a particular post is defamatory, we will remove the post. This doesn't happen that often. But if it has, please send us an email with "Illegal Post" in the title and we'll get back to you with the exact docs you need to submit, etc.
Why don't you remove more posts?!?
Well, that's called censorship, and we're just not that into it. But China is, so if you're interested in moving, we've provided a link below with some helpful information...

Is JuicyCampus liable for the content posted on the site?
No. JuicyCampus is not the author of the posts on the site. Rather, JuicyCampus is the provider of an interactive computer service. Pursuant to Title 47 U.S.C. Section 230, JuicyCampus is immune from liability arising from content posted by users. More information about Section 230 is available here:
http://w2.eff.org/bloggers/lg/faq-230.php
But if I tell you something is defamatory, then you're liable!...
Actually no. The courts have rejected notice based liability for more than a decade. Think about it. That doesn't even make sense. That would mean that if the subject of a post didn't like what was said about them (even if totally true), all they would have to do is claim that it was defamatory and we'd have to take it down. That would have an awful outcome for freedom of speech. That's not how it works.
